According to the recently published ranking results of a weekly journal, Heti Válasz, the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University is ranked as first in the medical and health care area lists of training programmes. Besides this result, the Faculty of Dentistry as well as the Faculty of Health Sciences are ranked at a top position in the institutional ranking. The ranking list prepared by the weekly journal is compiled on the basis of the number of admitted students, teacher excellence and job market indexes.
The score average of the admitted students was the highest at the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University in the areas of medical and health sciences training. Most of those students were admitted here who had gained a top rank at high school competitions. It also turned out that every student graduated from Semmelweis University are highly competitive in the job market.
The Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Health Sciences of Semmelweis University are also ranked as first among the institutions offering similar training programmes: the former is ranked as 5th among all the faculties of medicine and health sciences in Hungary and the latter is ranked as 12th. The Faculty of Pharmacy is ranked as 11th and the Faculty of Health and Public Services as 17th.
The weekly journal, Heti Válasz prepared three rankings according to training programmes within the areas of medicine and health sciences. Out of these rankings two are led by Semmelweis University: the medical doctor and dentistry training programmes. In the area of nursing and patient care programmes (physiotherapy) the institution was ranked as second.
HVG, another weekly journal has recently published its higher education ranking where it is still Semmelweis University that is ranked as first in the medical and health care area lists of training programmes. As far as the faculty list is concerned, the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University is ranked as first together with the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Sciences of Eötvös Loránd University. As it is published in the brochure entitled Diploma 2017, within the list of institutions prepared on the basis of teacher and student excellence it is Eötvös Loránd University that has won the first place.

According to the higher education ranking list of 2017 prepared by HVG (weekly journal), Semmelweis University is still ranked as first in the medical and health care area lists of training programmes. As far as the faculty list is concerned, the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University is ranked as first together with the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Sciences of Eötvös Loránd University. As it is published in the brochure entitled Diploma 2017, within the list of institutions prepared on the basis of teacher and student excellence it is Eötvös Loránd University that has won the first place.
It is highlighted in the brochure that as opposed to the general prestige of the institutional ranking list, it is rather the faculty list and the training programme list which are relevant concerning professional recognition and the concrete goals of the applicants.
The ranking list was prepared on the basis of teacher and student excellence, but the following other aspects were also taken into consideration: the number and average of students and that of professors having obtained a scientific degree; the number of professors who are members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; the number of students compared to the professors having a scientific degree; the number of applicants who applied for the given higher education institution at the first place; the score average of the successful candidates; the average of the successful candidates who had passed a language examination and the number of students who had won a high-school competition. On the basis of the above information, those top higher education institutions are leading this ranking list which have a large number of students: Eötvös Loránd University has been ranked as first, the University of Szeged as second, and Semmelweis University as well as the University of Pécs are both ranked as third in this list.
On the basis of student excellence, the Faculty of Medicine at Semmelweis University is ranked as first in the medical and health care area lists of training programmes. The Faculty of Dentistry is ranked as 5th, the Faculty of Health Sciences is ranked as 6th, the Faculty of Pharmacy as 8th and the Faculty of Health and Public Services as 19thconsidering the area lists of training programmes of the following six Hungarian institutions: Debrecen University, the University of Miskolc, the University of Pécs, Semmelweis University, Széchenyi István University and the University of Szeged. Semmelweis University has been ranked as first according to the HVG ranking of 2017 in the case of several training programmes: medical doctor programme, nursing and patient care BSc programme, health care management BSc programme.
