Every country has its unique Christmas traditions and Hungary is no exception as well. Throughout the centuries, Hungary was influenced by a multitude of customs that has shaped the way we celebrate Christmas today. Over a third of Semmelweis University’s students are international who have been in a particularly difficult situation since the onset of the coronavirus. Unable to travel back to their home countries, they stayed in Budapest continuing their studies. Despite the extraordinary circumstances many of them voluntarily undertook to play an active part in PCR screening. The 33-year-old Okamoto Sinshuke won first prize at the Bartók World Competition for Composers in 2020, and his work will be included in the programme of the 2021 contest for string quartet ensembles. Applications for next year's round of the Liszt Academy's internationally acclaimed event can be submitted starting from 15 December 2020.
