Tuition-free education
The scholarship programme was established by the Hungarian Government for those who live in a Hungarian diaspora outside of Europe and wish to study at a Hungarian higher education institution to develop their personal, professional and cultural relations to Hungary. As a scholarship holder you can focus on your academic advancement, as all your tuition fees are covered during your university studies.
Medical insurance
- health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act 122/2019, Eligibility for Social Security Benefits and the Funding for These Services) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65,000 (cca. 178 USD) a year/person.
Monthly stipend (upon request)
Depending on your study programme and level, your monthly stipend may also change as follows:
- If you apply for non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s, one-tier master’s levels or postgraduate specialist training courses, you can get a monthly amount of HUF 43,700 (cca USD 119) contribution to the living expenses in Hungary, for 12 months a year, until the completion of your studies.
- If you apply for doctoral level, the monthly amount of scholarship is HUF 140,000 (cca USD 383) for the first phase of your education (for 4 semesters) and HUF 180,000 (cca USD 493) for the second phase (4 semesters) – for 12 months a year, until the completion of your studies.
Travel contribution based on Erasmus calculator (upon request)
The scholarship also includes a travel component, based on which, taking into account the distance between Budapest and the city of the scholarship holder's place of residence, it provides a one-occasion travel allowance of HUF 330,000 (cca. 904 USD) between 8,000 and 19,999 km.
Accommodation contribution (upon request)
In all study levels, the scholarship provides free dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000 (cca USD 109) / month to the accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period. Please note, that if you live in a rented apartment, this HUF 40,000 (cca EUR 109)/ month contribution may not cover the full amount of your rental costs.
Bear in mind that these provisions are only a contribution to the living expenses of the Scholarship Holders, which also means that they do not fully cover all the costs of living. If you become a scholarship holder, you need to add your own financial resources to cover all living expenses in Hungary.
