2021 marked the 15th anniversary year of the Cake of Hungary competition. Organized since 2007, the contest is concluded by a professional jury in two categories – sugar and since 2014, sugar-free as well. This year “Sunflower”, a fruity cake made by Sándor Fodor, the owner of Habcsók (Meringue) Confectionery won the award, while the title of the Sugar-Free Cake of Hungary was given to Krisztián Füredi’s “Rose of Beszterce.”
Habcsók Confectionery is located in the suburb of Budapest, in the 16th district. Their winner cake Sunflower is a delicious combination of Williams pear, fresh yoghurt, honey, finely ground roasted sunflowers, and caramelized chocolate highlighted by the Williams pear pálinka for the extra flavour. Due to this special mixture of fine ingredients the cake perfectly fits warm summer days and cooler evenings too.
The Sugar-Free Cake of Hungary award is created alongside the Egy Csepp Figyelem (One Drop of Attention) Foundation of Hungary to raise awareness to victims of diabetes. In this category, the Confectioners’ Corporation presented the title to Krisztián Füredi, the master confectioner of the Hisztéria Confectionery in Tápiószecső for his “Rose of Beszterce” cake.
The multi-layered apricot flavour cake has an exciting fruity texture with jelly and mousse, paying homage to traditional Hungarian pastries with a pairing of walnut and dark chocolate. The cake has 12.4 grams of carbohydrates and 206.4 kcals per slice; therefore, it is an excellent and safe option for diabetic people.
The official recipes of the award-winning cakes are shared with the Hungarian confectioner community. This enables professional confectioners to recreate the winning cakes throughout the country.
