In 2021, around 102 000 students applied for academic studies in Hungary, which is about 11 percent higher than in the previous year. Same as in 2020, ELTE - Eötvös Loránd University proved to be the most popular Hungarian university as more than 26 000 students wished to get applied for the prestigious university’s programmes. The second was the University of Debrecen having 16,189 applicants, and the third was the Budapest Business School with 14,377 applications. Based on the recent statistics, you can also find the University of Szeged (14,151 applicants), the University of Pécs (13,809 applicants) and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (10,879 applicants) among the top 10 universities in Hungary.
As for the Bachelor’s Programmes, the study fields of economy were the most popular with more than 29,000 applications. The trends in this field have not changed significantly compared to the last year: the Business Administration and Management (10,361 applicants) and the Commerce and Marketing (6,747 applicants) programmes took the first places. This year, Psychology had the third place as it attracted 5,854 students.
In 2021, more than 20,200 applications were received for the Master’s programme. At this study level, the Management and Leadership (1,1879) and the Psychology (1,119) programmes became the most popular, besides, Human Resource Counselling, Business Development and Finance also took nice positions.
In the case of the one-tier programmes (integrated programmes where the Bachelor level and the Master level is unified), most students chose Law with 4,248 applicants, while Teacher Training and Medicine became the second and third most popular ones.
It is important to highlight, that the programme of Law achieved great success not only in the one-tier education type, but also at Bachelor and Master level. In 2021, altogether 8,000 students applied for this programme, which is a 9 year record in Hungary.
