The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government. It aims to support international students to pursue studies in Hungarian higher education institutions. We are delighted to see that the programme attracts thousands of applications year by year. How many applications were submitted?
The Scholarship Programme is becoming increasingly popular every year which is especially noticeable from the number of applications. In 2024, more than 66.000 applications were submitted, a 16% increase compared to 2023/2024.
What were the most popular fields of study?
The top 5 fields which attracted the most applicants are Engineering Science, Computer Science and Information Technology, Health Science, Economic Science and Natural Science. Most students were interested in such programmes as Medicine, Computer Science, Business Administration and Management, Computer Science Engineering and Public Health.
How many study programmes were available?
In the 2024/2025 academic year, you could choose from more than 800 full degree programmes. These cover all higher education fields at all degree levels, including part-time and doctoral programmes. Besides English and Hungarian, there are programmes available in German, French or other foreign languages as well.
How many Hungarian universities participate in the scholarship programme?
Currently, 30 Hungarian higher education institutions are engaged in Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme. These include the top Hungarian universities from the capital and the countryside as well.
How many programme countries and territories were engaged?
The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme is based on bilateral educational agreements. In the 2024/2025 academic year, the scholarship is available on five continents in 93 sending countries and territories. This year 6 new sending countries have joined the programme: Armenia, Chad, Madagascar, Venezuela, and as eligible members of SEGIB region Honduras and the Dominican Republic. We welcome all the new countries on the board!
Which sending countries have the most applicants?
From the record number of applicants, most students apply from Asia and Africa. The top 5 sending partners this year are Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and India. From these 5 countries we received more than 31.000 applications.
