Dr. Gábor Kemenesi, a key virologist at the National Laboratory of Virology in Pécs, and a member of Hungary’s COVID-19 Task Force was the speaker of the Alumni Hungary Webinar series in November. He gave an exciting presentation on global pandemics and the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic. We interviewed him about his research field and the role of communication in science.

Between 25 and 31 October, the Study in Hungary team, and the representatives of six Hungarian universities visited Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to strengthen the long-existing relations between Vietnam and Hungary. In both cities, the delegation took part in education - and alumni events to promote Hungarian study opportunities and to further develop connections with Vietnamese alumni who graduated in Hungary recently or long ago. It was a great mission with many memorable moments. Here you can read a summary of all events.

As the world becomes increasingly globalized, it is essential to understand the effects of global current affairs and foreign policy. International Relations is a complex social science related to a number of other fields. At the last Alumni Hungary Webinar in October, Anna Brjezovskaia from Georgia, our alumni volunteer and Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder, hold a presentation about this highly important field. She is pursuing her MA degree at Eötvös Loránd University in the field of International Relations (IR), with a specialization in security studies. Currently, Anna is an ELTE University International Student Ambassador and Teaching Assistant.

From the food- and manufacturing industry to tackling climate crisis and energy resources, chemistry is essential in almost every part of our daily lives. Still, it is often considered a closed world only available to scientists. Dr. Gábor Lente, the head of the Institute of Chemistry at the University of Pécs, and the speaker of the Alumni Hungary Webinar series in September believes that chemistry should be brought closer to the non-professional audience too. We interviewed him about his experience as a chemist and about his current research.

The debate on working time is one of the most relevant topics of our age.  The ecological economist, Miklós Antal studies this highly interesting field as the head of the MTA-ELTE Lendület New Vision Research Group. As a former presenter of the Alumni Hungary Webinar Series, he introduced his research on the potential of working time reduction and a more sustainable economic system. Prof. Sándor Imre, who is the R&D director of the Quantum Informatics National Lab of Hungary, was the presenter for the June edition of the Alumni Hungary Webinar Series.
