A two-day conference was organised by the Directorate of International Relations together with student associations to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus programme. The exchange programme was launched in 1987 with the aim of enabling students to experience different cultures, educational systems and methodologies. Semmelweis University joined the initiative 20 years ago and now an average of 150 students per year spend a semester in an another European country and an equal number of foreign students come to study here as well.

They attended summer professional training programmes

Based on Memorandums of Understanding signed earlier, participants from the United Arab Emirates and Japan attended summer professional training programmes organized by Semmelweis University.

Almost seven hundred interventions and treatments were carried out by the medical team during the entire period of the 17th FINA World Championships. As Prof. Dr. Béla Merkely, Head of the Medical Team of the Championships and Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs explained, in the framework of the Masters phase, 10 000 senior athletes between the age of 30-100 were competing. Since they were not doing sports actively and were not under continuous medical supervision before the competitions, this Masters phase meant a greater challenge for the medical team as well.

As Dr. Béla Merkely, Head of the Medical Committee of the upcoming sports event explained, the medical care background of the 17th FINA World Championships will be provided by 550 physicians and health care professionals. Dr. Béla Merkely, Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs highlighted that the organization of the medical care background of such an event is a complex task. The 17th FINA World Championships starting on July 14 will take place in five different locations, and participants will have competitions in six different sports. The organizers will also have to provide secure circumstances during the trainings as well.

The Medical University of Vienna, which belongs to the world’s leading lung transplantation centres, organized an international expedition with the participation of lung transplant patients for the first time. During the tour the Hungarian members of the expedition successfully managed to climb the highest mountain of Africa, Kilimanjaro (5895 m).

András Pető College, as well as the Institute of Conductive Development of András Pető College will operate as András Pető Faculty (PAK) of Semmelweis University starting from August 1, 2017. The students who have recently been enrolled at András Pető College will already start their studies in the framework of Semmelweis University, and following August 1, 2017 the diplomas will be issued by András Pető Faculty of Semmelweis University.
