Hungarian universities on the QS ranking list

Seven Hungarian universities are listed on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking, which is one of the most influential university rankings in the world. On the list, which is led by MIT, Stanford and Harvard, the best positions amongst Hungarian universities were taken by the University of Szeged and the University of Debrecen.

The British QS is one of the most recognized companies in the world measuring the quality of higher education. It has been publishing the world ranking of higher education institutions since 2004. The 2021 list came out on the 10th of June, in which more than 5,500 higher education institution has been examined and more than 1,000 institutions were ranked.

It is an honour and great prestige to be part of the QS ranking. This year seven Hungarian higher education institutions were listed among the best 1,000 universities in the world. The University of Szeged has earned the best ranking among the Hungarian institutions, it took the 501-510 place. As second came out the University of Debrecen which is on the 521-530 place on the list. The other Hungarian universities who achieve to be part of the ranking are Eötvös Lóránd University- ELTE (place: 601-650), University of Pécs (place: 651-700), Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Corvinus University of Budapest, Szent István University Gödöllő and the University of Miskolc (places: 801-1000).

The QS World University Rankings is the most widely read university rankings in the world, along with the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities. When compiling the annual rankings among others, they consider the following aspects: academic reputation, the productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar, citations per faculty, the number of staff with PhDs, the proportion of international faculty members and students, alumni outcomes.

The list is led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) followed by Stanford and Harvard University, and the top ten includes universities from the US, the UK and Switzerland.
