6 Effective thesis writing tips

If you are a graduate student, April is already here and you are in the middle of writing your thesis, which is one of the most challenging tasks during your academic years. Sometimes, it will be stressful, and you may lose your motivation. However, you must remember that all university students go through the same process and many of them achieve excellent grades. How do they do it? Here we collected some useful tips which may help you to stay focused and effective during your thesis writing.

1.  Find a relevant topic

One of the most important tasks at the beginning is to find a relevant topic for your thesis. Start thinking about it in time and collect your ideas and first impressions. If you start researching and let yourself think about it, you can find a unique and original subject more easily.

2.  Consult with your supervisor wisely

The supervisor plays an essential role because he/she guides you through the whole process of thesis writing. To make your consultations more effective, bring some specific ideas and collect your questions in advance. Prepare for your meetings and go to every meeting with a clear agenda.

3. Talk to your classmates

Talking to your classmates is helpful in many ways, especially when you realize that you are not alone in this situation. They face very similar problems and difficulties when writing a thesis. If you share your thoughts, you may motivate and inspire each other in such ways that you have not thought about before. Sometimes you can even find solutions just by simply listening to your classmates.

4.  Find a study spot

Dedicate a space in your house (or room) that is just for working on your thesis and another just for relaxation. It is important to separate your workplace from your “free time places” because in this way you can concentrate and focus. You are going to be more efficient if you find an inspiring and relaxing place at home.

5.  Set deadlines and schedule your time

The best way to write your thesis is to answer some of the most important questions such as: which tasks do you want to accomplish during the day, or what and when do you intend to do them? If you create a structure for yourself and set some goals, it is easier to meet your deadlines. There will be some ups and downs, but that is also perfectly fine. Just be consistent and keep going forward!

6. Take regular, short breaks

Writing in short blocks is more efficient than writing in long, extended periods. Concentration becomes weaker after 45-60 minutes, so if you feel that you cannot find the inspiration, just take a short 15 minutes break before starting again. For instance, listen to music or go for a walk in the nearby park. If you resist the temptation to glue yourself to the chair for the entire period, you may get sudden insights when you are away from your desk.

If you follow these easy and simple tips, your thesis writing process will become easier. However, don’t forget about the most important part: focus and enjoy your topic. Good luck!
